Destined to fall

by Nimit Maru, May 24, 2000

Love spreads slowly,
like a disease it infects them all.
clearly we all hear its blaring call.
"come to me and i will show you the way, the way to the great wall."

A man walks softly down the wooden hall.
one hand in his pocket, in the other a pall mall.
in life he is getting larger, in thought-small.
stops suddenly as even he is taken by the call.
"come to me and i will show you the way, the way to the great wall."

The boy awakens loudly, different from the quiet of all.
rubs his eyes, and pushes aside his shawl.
his legs fall to the floor as he moves in a crawl;
attracted by the great voice, and its powering call.
"come to me and i will show you the way, the way to the great wall."

The girl runs away in tears, throws away her doll
daddy buy me this, buy me that, buy me the whole mall.
take me to Paris, take me to China, maybe to Nepal.
buy me this, buy me that, take me to see baseball.
the whine stopped, surprised were all.
she stole away in the darkness, running from her fall.
she had obviously heard, the sound of the great love call.
"come to me and i will show you the way, the way to the great wall."

Everyone was seen, staring wide eyed at the wall.
they all looked staring, silence ascended over the hall.
it was nothing they expected, nothing at all.
they expected a great structure, flying high like a golf ball.
in agony they all moaned in pain, it was a disappointment.
the wall was nothing that was expected--nothing at all,
not as great as a king, not like the sears tower--tall
but what they saw of it was all, it was small.
their once ideal call, their once towering wall,
now left to nothing but their destined, and destructing fall.
